Keeping my digital life a bit more private

We’ve all been there—browsing the web, maybe doing some shopping, and suddenly seeing ads for the exact thing we were just looking at. It’s a little creepy, right? I used to just ignore it, thinking it was just "how the internet works," but lately, I’ve been trying to be a bit more intentional about what I share and where my traffic goes.

I recently looked into some tools to clean up my digital hygiene, and honestly, it’s easier than I thought. You don't need to be a cybersecurity expert to set up a basic firewall or stop your devices from broadcasting your location history every time you walk into a coffee shop.

A few things that made a difference for me:

Blocking the noise: Using a tool like Windscribe has been a game-changer. Their R.O.B.E.R.T. feature is basically a built-in ad and tracker blocker that works on everything, not just my browser.
Public Wi-Fi peace of mind: I used to avoid using public networks, but having a decent firewall that kills the connection if the VPN drops (and some MAC address spoofing) makes me feel much more comfortable.
Split Tunneling: This is a cool one—I can let my local printer traffic go through my home network, while the rest of my sensitive stuff stays tucked away in the encrypted tunnel.

It’s really not about being paranoid; it’s just about having a little more control.
